The Mets have designated Dillon Gee for assignment, the club confirmed on Monday.
Gee, who allowed eight runs in 3.2 innings while making a spot start on Sunday, had compiled a 5.90 ERA and 1.66 WHIP for the Mets this season.
The Mets now have a week to trade Gee. If they are unable to do so, the team will have to either place him on waivers or release him. If Gee clears waivers, he can then be outrighted to Triple-A Las Vegas.
While speaking prior to Monday’s game, Sandy Alderson said the Mets only had one serious conversation with a team about trading Gee this past offseason.
