WASHINGTON — David Wright rounded third base, chugging as fast as he could with a bad back, and saw Tim Teufel, the Mets’ third-base coach, swinging his left arm like a windmill, waving him on. The Mets had just built a two-run lead in the top of the seventh, and now Teufel, going for the kill, wanted to make it three.
So on came Wright, trying to score on the drive that Yoenis Cespedes had just lined over Bryce Harper’s head in right field. And on came the relay throw from the Nationals.
Wright got there first, just barely, sliding across the plate a tick before Nationals catcher Wilson Ramos applied the tag.
