PORT ST. LUCIE — David Wright has been the face of the franchise for years. He is the team captain and the Mets’ leader on and off the field. Now, the Mets need to find out if he can still be a productive hitter in a lineup that needs him to contribute.
After a start to spring training that was purposely slower and more deliberate to prepare him for his first full season playing with spinal stenosis, Wright finally made his Grapefruit League debut Friday night. He hit two singles in three at-bats, scored from first and slid into home and made a play on a ground ball at third.
