Throughout his Mets career, Daniel Murphy has been either maligned or thoroughly adored by Mets fans; sometimes both at the same time.
A portion of Mets fans long considered him a liability at second base, an awful base runner, and little more than a singles and doubles hitter. Yet, after David Wright, he’s the longest tenured member of the team and arguably has been their most consistent hitter since 2009.
Adding to the greater Murphy conundrum is his looming free agency. Considering the club’s publicly stated intentions, he is potentially playing out his last games as a Met.
