Mickey Jannis didn’t pitch particularly well, needing 85 pitches to get through four innings, but when he left the mound, the 51s weren’t in terrible shape. He only put them in a 3-0 hole, and in the PCL, no run is safe. Logan Taylor put the 51s in an even deeper hole, giving up seven runs in two innings. El Paso starter and one of San Diego’s top pitching prospects, Eric Lauer, had no problem dispatching the 51s on the afternoon, twirling six innings of shutout ball, striking out ten and allowing only three hits.
