CHICAGO — Curtis Granderson is torn between rooting for his hometown Cubs and friend Jason Kipnis in the World Series.
The Mets outfielder, honored before Game 3 on Friday with the Roberto Clemente award — given annually to baseball’s top humanitarian — couldn’t help but get caught up in the excitement at Wrigley Field.
“Waking up to a text message that people are already in the bars this morning at 5 a.m in Wrigleyville shows me the excitement and buzz around, not only the Cubs, but the city of Chicago,” Granderson said. “I know people are struggling just to get tickets and I get a chance to be at this game for this honor, but to get a chance to watch two great teams play baseball and to hopefully see what this team can do for this city.
