In a three-way race for the NL wild card, the Mets may have a little help coming over the horizon, with Steven Matz expected to start Friday night against Philadelphia.
Matz has been on the disabled list since Aug. 15 with left shoulder tightness. Though the Mets can expect only so much from the 25-year-old left-hander, he could be a huge lift down the stretch after looking good in a full bullpen session Wednesday at Citi Field.
“Yeah, he’ll probably start on Friday. We’ll limit him,” manager Terry Collins told The Post. “He hasn’t pitched in so long, we can’t [overtax him].
