Mets comeback evaporates in eighth inning collapse against the Diamondbacks

Eduardo Rodriguez and Luis Severino were each perfect in their respective first innings in Arizona Wednesday night. Their next few innings would take very different paths. While Rodriguez would continue to cruise, Severino struggled through a 35 pitch second inning, going to a full count on three straight batters and almost escaping the inning before Old Friend Luis Guillorme poked a single between third and short to bring home the first run of the game.

Down 1-0, Severino encountered even more trouble in the bottom of the third. He retired the leadoff hitter, Corbin Carroll, on a shot that caromed off his foot, Severino was limping afterwards, and required a couple of warmup throws before being allowed to continue.
