Mets closer Jeurys Familia’s 27th save of the season was team’s most important to date

Down after getting swept by the Nationals in Washington – certainly – but far from demoralized, Mets’ bats got Steven Matz off the hook in Thursday night’s series opener against Chicago by flipping a 3-1 deficit into a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning off Cubs starter John Lackey and reliever Joel Peralta.

After getting 2.2 innings of exemplary bridge work from Erik Goeddel, Addison Reed, and Jerry Blevins, Coach Collins naturally summoned Jeurys Familia in the top of the ninth to slam the door shut on a desperately needed victory.
