Mets' closer Edwin Diaz expected to miss season after suffering knee injury at World Baseball Classic

NEW YORK -- The Mets' season of promise just took a big hit.

According to numerous reports, closer Edwin Diaz will need surgery to repair a torn patellar tendon in his right knee and is expected to miss the entire 2023 season.

The All-Star right-hander suffered the injury while celebrating Puerto Rico's 5-2 win over the Dominican Republic at the World Baseball Classic on Wednesday night.
