PHILADELPHIA -- No matter what happens the rest of this weekend, the Mets will play beyond Sunday.
Their 5-1 win over the Phillies on Friday ensured that the Mets will, at worst, finish with the same 162-game record as the Cardinals. That means even if they lose both of their remaining games and the Cardinals win all three of theirs, those two teams would play a tiebreaker next week for the right to qualify for the National League Wild Card Game.
The Mets can clinch a Wild Card berth outright if the Cardinals lose Friday against the Pirates.
