Mets claim Travis Blankenhorn off waivers from Mariners, DFA Wilfredo Tovar

The Mets have claimed 24-year-old infielder Travis Blankenhorn off waivers from the Mariners, and they’ve added him to their active roster. To make room for Blankenhorn on the 40-man roster, the Mets designated fellow infielder Wilfredo Tovar for assignment.

A left-handed hitter, Blankenhorn was claimed on waivers twice in the past month before the Mets claimed him, first by the Dodgers from the Twins on May 14 and then by the Mariners from the Dodgers on May 24.

Drafted by the Twins in the third round in 2015, Blankenhorn has hit .206/.250/.324 in 36 plate appearances in Triple-A this year.
