The Mets have claimed 27-year-old left-handed relief pitcher off waivers from the Marlins. In a limited sample of 44.2 innings at the major league level, Tarpley has a 6.65 ERA and 5.21 FIP over the past three seasons.
Having spent time in the minor league systems of the Orioles and Pirates as a starting pitcher, Tarpley joined the Yankees as a player to be named later in the trade that sent Ivan Nova to the Pirates in 2016. The Yankees used Tarpley almost exclusively in relief in his time in their system, and he made his major league debut with them in 2018.
