Mets channeling their inner WWE with postgame award ceremony

TORONTO — The ultimate goal for Mets players is a ring, but on a daily basis it’s a belt.

In an effort to keep the atmosphere loose and build team unity, Michael Cuddyer has imported an old rewards system from his days with the Twins and Rockies to help motivate the Mets.

After each Mets victory, Cuddyer serves as the judge and jury and selects a player who made a special contribution in the game. That player receives “the belt” — a WWE-style garnishment — during a postgame ceremony.

“It’s fun and guys look forward to it at the end of the game and they get excited for it,” Cuddyer said before the Mets faced the Blue Jays on Wednesday at Rogers Centre.
