NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — It looked awfully painful.
Mets’ slugger Yoenis Cespedes was forced to leave Game 5 of the World Series against the Kansas City Royals on Sunday night after fouling a pitch off his left kneecap during the sixth inning.
Cespedes, who has largely struggled during the Fall Classic, was facing the Royals’ Edinson Volquez with the bases loaded and no one out and the Mets’ clinging to a 1-0 lead when his powerful swing sent him down in a heap on top of home plate.
After being attended to by trainers, Cespedes stayed in the game, but popped out weakly to short two pitches later and was visibly hobbling as he ran down first base.
