Catcher Johnny Monell, who cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Las Vegas, has accepted the assignment and will remain with the New York Mets organization.
Monell, 29, had been designated for assignment last month when the Mets needed to open a 40-man roster spot to re-sign Bartolo Colon.
Because Monell also had been outrighted off a 40-man roster earlier in his career, he had the option of declaring free agency.
Barring injury, Monell is likely to open the 2016 season in the Pacific Coast League, since the Mets plan to have Travis d'Arnaud and Kevin Plawecki at the major league level.
