Devin Mesoraco’s season might be hanging by a thread, but the Mets catcher isn’t necessarily finished yet.
Bothered on the last road trip by neck stiffness, Mesoraco has been diagnosed with a bulging disk in his back, according to assistant general manager John Ricco, for which he has received an epidural.
Mesoraco is expected to rest for about a week before he is reevaluated. Kevin Plawecki and Tomas Nido have been handling the catching duties in Mesoraco’s absence. Mesoraco left Monday’s game at Dodger Stadium with stiffness after sitting idle for most of the previous week.
Plawecki, who was removed from Wednesday’s game after getting drilled in the ribs, returned to the starting lineup Friday.
