Steven Matz struck out eight and allowed just one hit in the Mets' 5-1 win over the Padres on Sunday.

Former Mets catcher Barry Lyons was in town, up from Biloxi, Miss., to speak at Baseball Chapel on Sunday morning.

The first player in the room at Citi Field was starting pitcher Steven Matz.

“I’m so impressed with him as both a person and a pitcher,’’ Lyons told The Post.

As far as the pitcher, Lyons noted: “He’s got a power four-seamer that you just don’t find in many lefties.
