The Mets can now breathe again.
After Steven Matz flew back to New York to get a nerve irritation in his left forearm examined by team doctor David Altchek on Monday morning, the pitcher got the good news that there is no structural damage and he could miss as little as one start, The Post’s Joel Sherman reported.
The Mets will still have to decide whether to put Matz on the injured list; his next turn through the rotation would have been Wednesday against the Padres. Fellow starter Jason Vargas is also injured, leaving Sunday’s game against the Brewers early with left hamstring discomfort.
