Ahead of today’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates, the New York Mets have called up Jerad Eickhoff to possibly eat up some innings behind opener Aaron Loup. To make room on the roster, the team optioned Nick Tropeano to Triple-A while also designating reliever Stephen Tarpley for assignment. Geoff Hartlieb, whom the club recently claimed and was serving as the 27th man for yesterday’s doubleheader, has also returned to Syracuse.
Eickhoff was called up by the Mets on June 20 and made a couple of starts for them. The first went reasonably well, as he shut out the Atlanta Braves over four three-hit innings with three walks and three strikeouts in the first game of the June 21 doubleheader.
