The Mets have called up right-handed pitcher Jerad Eickhoff, and to make room for him on the active roster, the team has designated outfielder Mason Williams for assignment. Williams was out of options and therefore had to be DFA’d to be removed from the active roster—despite the Mets having an open spot on the 40-man roster coming into the day.
Eickhoff has spent the year with Triple-A Syracuse thus far, and after a nice stretch of three consecutive quality starts in late May, he’s been lit up in two starts thus far in June, allowing 12 earned runs in just 11 innings of work against Buffalo and Worcester.
