The Mets have recalled first baseman Dominic Smith from Triple-A Las Vegas as their 26th man for tonight’s Little League World Series Classic in Williamsport, the team announced. MLB granted both the Mets and Phillies the roster spot usually reserved for doubleheaders.
The 23-year-old Smith has had a tumultuous season, failing to produce while up with the major league team but also not getting much consistent playing time. During his last stint in the majors, he was up from June 12 to July 20. He started 16 games, appeared in 10 more, and did not play in six.
