MILWAUKEE — Addison Reed fired the pitch, saw Manny Pina make contact, and barely turned his head around to see the result. Perhaps he already knew what had happened to his hanging full-count slider in a tense eighth inning.
At one point in Sunday’s 11-9 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers, the Mets led by 7-1. They had their best able-bodied starter on the mound, Jacob deGrom. Their offense, led by the hot-hitting Michael Conforto, did its best to pick up the slack for the pitching staff.
But it was not enough, and the Mets’ pitching staff collapsed again.
