When the 2016 season began on April 7th, the public contest to pick the new name of the Mets’ Double-A affiliate launched. By April 25th, When submissions closed, fans had submitted more than a thousand possible names.
Leading up to the announcement, there were five other potential names which included the Rocking Horses, Timber Jockeys, Bullheads, Gobblers, and Stud Muffins.
Similar to the Brooklyn Cyclones and the Cyclone roller coaster, the Rumble Ponies pays tribute to the carousel of Binghamton. After all, Binghamton is considered to be the Carousel Capital of the World.
