The Mets and Rays played an ugly game of baseball, and the Mets blew a slim lead in the ninth before going on to lose 7-6 in ten innings.
Mets pitchers issued eleven walks—a staggering amount—in the game, with Luis Severino walking six in five innings. Coming off his best start of the year his last time out, Severino went five innings and gave up four runs—all earned—with six strikeouts to go with the aforementioned walks.
Thanks to a two-run home run by Francisco Lindor in the first, a bases loaded walk to DJ Stewart in the third, and a pair of RBI singles by Omar Narváez and Brandon Nimmo in the fourth, the Mets took a lead into the fifth inning.
