After the starting pitchers matched zeroes, both closers blew saves but the Mets emerged victorious in the ninth to take the game 3-2 in Pittsburgh to win their second straight.
Edwin Díaz entered in the eighth inning to try and bail out Dedniel Núñez, but with the bases loaded he gave up a single to give the Pirates a temporary lead. Then it was the Mets’ turn against Aroldis Chapman. With great at bats by Francisco Alvarez, Harrison Bader, and Jose Iglesias, Franciso Lindor walked to the plate with the bases loaded and delivered a clutch two-out hit to give the Mets a 3-2 lead.
