It may be too little, too late, but it seems Mickey Callaway is finally punishing Robinson Cano for his refusal to run out of the batter’s box.
Cano is out of the Mets’ lineup for Monday night against the Nationals a day after standing in place while the Marlins turned his swinging bunt into a double play. That incident was the second time in three days Cano didn’t run out of the box. Both resulted in double plays.
Cano defended himself after the game, saying, “I thought it was a foul ball.”
Callaway, who didn’t bench Cano after the first incident, continued to defend his second baseman Sunday, saying he didn’t feel it warranted taking him out of the game.
