There exists only one magical solution to the Mets’ bullpen problem, and as fate would have it, that magic almost certainly won’t work at Citi Field.
So the Mets, having failed to adequately address their pitching depth last winter, must face a hard truth in light of Jeurys Familia’s placement on the injured list with a sore right shoulder.
They made this insecure, uncomfortable bed. Now they’ll have to lie in it — rely on their internal pitching options, in other words — and hope they don’t take a fall.
While one can never hammer the Mets enough for their lack of spending, a serious pursuit of the still-available Craig Kimbrel would be a bad idea … and very likely a futile one, as well.
