Mets anemic offense, deGrom can’t stop Cubs in 6-1 loss

CUBS 6, METS 1

Mets general manager Sandy Alderson can make all the jokes he wants about Panic City. The Mets just rolled into what would be downtown.

The Mets actually scored a run on Thursday and that is, in full, the highlight from a 6-1 loss to the Cubs before 27,207 at Citi Field that gave Chicago a sweep of the seven-game season series. The third-inning tally, where pitcher Jacob deGrom doubled and scored on a two-out Curtis Granderson double, ended a stretch of 22 straight innings without a run.

But the Mets have just 23 runs over their last 14 games and there is little in the way real optimism on or around the team as they careen into the toughest part of their schedule.
