The Mets are among the teams considering free agent designated hitter J.D. Martinez, according to a report from Jon Heyman of the Post. The 36-year-old is coming off a 2023 season in which he hit .271/.321/.572 with 33 home runs and a 135 wRC+ for the Dodgers.
Over the past ten seasons, Martinez has been one of the most consistent hitters in baseball. He’s totaled a 140 wRC+ since the beginning of the 2014 season, and the pandemic-shortened season in 2020 was the only one in which he was worse than league average by wRC+.
