The Mets turned to their two newest All-Stars on Sunday to put a week’s worth of futility behind them.
Jeff McNeil and Pete Alonso, only hours after officially receiving word they had been selected to the National League All-Star team, put the kind of beatdown on the Braves bullpen usually reserved for Mets relievers.
McNeil delivered with a go-ahead single in the eighth and Alonso followed with a two-run double that provided the winning margin in an 8-5 victory over the Braves at Citi Field. The Mets (38-47) snapped a seven-game losing streak.
