Mets add Rene Rivera to 40-man roster

The Mets have added catcher Rene Rivera to their 40-man roster. Rivera had already been in the Mets’ 60-player pool, but the Mets had one open spot on the 40-man roster before adding Rivera to that.

Last year, Rivera spent the bulk of his season in Triple-A Syracuse, but he got into nine games with the Mets at the major league level and made 20 plate appearances, hitting .235/.350/.412 with a 108 wRC+ in that very small sample.

Before last year, River spent the 2016 season and a chunk of the 2017 season with the Mets, was traded to the Cubs late in the 2017 season, and spent the 2018 season with the Angels and Braves.
