The Mets added to their bullpen depth on Tuesday, acquiring left-hander Eric O'Flaherty and cash from the A's in exchange for a player to be named or cash.
O'Flaherty was 1-2 with a 5.91 ERA in 25 relief appearances for the A's this season. He limited left-handed batters to a .186 average in 50 plate appearances.
In a corresponding roster move, the Mets designated reliever Alex Torres for assignment.
O'Flaherty can become a free agent after the season. He signed a two-year deal with Oakland in 2013, when he was coming off Tommy John surgery.
