The Mets added OF Brandon Nimmo, and right-handed pitchers Robert Gsellman, Seth Lugo, and Jeff Walters to their 40-man roster on Friday, the team announced.
The move brings the Mets’ 40-man roster to 39 and protects Nimmo, Gsellman, Lugo, and Walters from the upcoming Rule 5 Draft.
Two players the Mets did not protect who may get claimed in the Rule 5 Draft are OF Wuilmer Becerra and RHP Matt Bowman.
In order for a player claimed in the Rule 5 Draft to become property of a new team, the player has to stick on that team’s 25-man roster for the entire regular season, with the player remaining active (not on the disabled list) for a minimum of 90 days.
