A grand slam wasn’t enough for Francisco Lindor on Saturday—a second home run and sparkling defense rounded out one of the MVP candidate’s best games of the season.
Lindor tied his season high with five RBI as the Mets (68-62) beat the San Diego Padres 6-1 Saturday night at Petco Park. His fourth-inning grand slam—though a game-changer—came after a lucky break earlier in the inning.
With two outs and Starling Marte on first base, a routine line drive from Francisco Alvarez headed straight for Manny Machado’s glove. But Machado couldn’t squeeze it and allowed Alvarez to reach safely at first in what turned out to be a supremely costly error.
