PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Left-hander Sean Gilmartin tossed three scoreless innings and the New York Mets held on to beat the Atlanta Braves, 7-5, Sunday at Tradition Field.
The Mets built a 6-0 lead on a bases-loaded walk to Johnny Monell and Travis Taijeron’s two-run single in the fifth. However, Chasen Bradford allowed four runs in the sixth and Akeel Morris another run in the seventh as the Braves pulled within a run. Morris stranded the tying run on third base when he retired Chase d’Arnaud, brother of Travis d’Arnaud, on a foul pop-out.
Chase d’Arnaud then committed an error in right field a half-inning later that allowed Ty Kelly to score on Raywilly Gomez’s single as the Mets reopened a two-run lead.
