Mets 5, Rockies 3: Clutch ninth-inning hits propel Mets to victory

The Mets offense was never going to stay as hot as it had been through most of June and July, but even still, the past couple weeks have been exhausting. Entering tonight’s game, the offense had been hitting just .195 with runners in scoring position since July 14th. A number of winnable games have been lost because of the team’s inability to get hits in big spots, and their momentum in the playoff race has taken a turn for the worse as a result.

For a lot of tonight’s game, it looked as though the big hit would continue to elude the Mets, as the Rockies’ less-than-threatening bullpen shut them down with relative ease.
