In just about any scenario, winning two games in a three-game series is a good outcome. That’s a .666 winning percentage, after all, which translates to about 108 wins over a 162-game season. So sure, getting the full sweep is nice, but the major goal should just be to win the series, right?
Well, usually. When you’re going up against the 2024 Chicago White Sox, however, and when you’re a couple games back of a playoff spot at the beginning of September, winning two out of three isn’t enough. The Mets already secured the series victory with wins the past two days, but a loss today still would have represented a major missed opportunity for the team to capitalize on facing a historically awful squad to make up ground in the wild card race.
