Mets’ 1st reinforcement a big disappointment so far

MILWAUKEE — Dilson Herrera’s return from the disabled list hasn’t reaped the kind of benefits the Mets had hoped.

The rookie second baseman is batting only .176 with one homer in 11 games since returning from a fractured finger tip, but team officials remain confident Herrera is close to a breakthrough.

“I think, unfortunately for him, when he got hurt he was on a pretty good roll and starting to figure it out,” hitting coach Kevin Long said. “Since he has been back, it has been a little bit tougher.”

Herrera, 21, was batting .235 with a homer and three RBIs in 10 games before the injury.
