‘Maverick’ deserves his own award for Mets’ turnaround

ATLANTA — Yoenis Cespedes will not win the NL MVP award unless Bryce Harper falls to pieces the final weeks of the season.

Cespedes will win an award, though.

He’s going to help Sandy Alderson earn Executive of the Year honors.

Make that Baseball Maverick of the Year — just like the book said.

Everything is coming up aces for Alderson.

Yes, there’s been some good fortune involved — Carlos Gomez could be in the outfield instead of Cespedes — but there is no denying Alderson really is a Baseball Maverick.

Cespedes is a modern-day Donn Clendenon, hero of the 1969 Mets who came over in a trade deadline deal.
