PHILADELPHIA -- The Mets have scratched Steven Matz from his scheduled start against the Phillies on Thursday because of continued stiffness in the right side of his back.
Matz was originally scheduled to pitch Wednesday, but the Mets pushed his start back a day when he woke up with back stiffness. Now they are pushing him back further. The team hopes to start Matz this weekend against the Nationals, but it's making no guarantees to that end. Weather could also interfere, with a poor forecast Friday in particular.
