PITTSBURGH -- Bad news for the Mets about outfielder Yoenis Cespedes on Saturday was followed by Sunday's good news regarding left-hander Steven Matz.
Matz, who was expected to be a mainstay of the pitching staff but has yet to pitch this season because of an elbow injury, made his second rehabilitation start for Triple-A Las Vegas. He pitched five scoreless, hitless innings with eight strikeouts and no walks. He threw 73 pitches, 50 for strikes.
Matz, who was 9-8 with a 3.40 ERA in 22 starts last season, is on the disabled list with a sprained flexor tendon.
