Mets LHP Steven Matz struggled in his second start of the spring on Sunday, allowing five runs on five hits against the Nationals while failing to complete the first inning.
Matz faced nine batters and recorded just two outs before he was replaced by Corey Taylor.
The 26-year-old Matz allowed an RBI single to Chris Dominguez to put Washington on the board, then Kelvin Gutierrez added a sacrifice fly, Pedro Severino hit an RBI single, and Rafael Bautista drove in Severino with an RBI single to right field.
