Steven Matz has irritation in his left elbow and will skip his next Grapefruit League start, Sandy Alderson said Sunday.
Matz, who had surgery to remove a bone spur in September and has dealt with elbow and shoulder issues among others since underdoing Tommy John surgery in 2010, was to start Monday. Zach Wheeler will get that start.
"It's worrisome that he continues to be injured off and on," Alderson told reporters. "That's the difficulty. We don't think it's serious. On the other hand, starting pitchers are relied on every five days. I'm not sure exactly where this is going to take us.
