Mets LHP Steven Matz allowed three runs on four hits in four innings in his first start of the season in Sunday's 5-1 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals.
"He just couldn't get the ball over the plate consistently," manager Mickey Callaway told reporters after the game. "Really deep counts, falling behind, things like that. … It didn't look like he had the confidence to throw it over."
After a scoreless first inning, Paul DeJong put the Cardinals on the board with a solo shot in the second, Marcell Ozuna added a two-out RBI double in the third, and Yadier Molina launched his second home run of the series in the fourth.
