Matz falls victim to long ball in 2018 debut

Mets LHP Steven Matz allowed three runs on four hits in four innings on Sunday in his first start of the season for the Mets.

After a scoreless first inning, Paul DeJong put the Cardinals on the board with a solo shot in the second, Marcell Ozuna added a two-out RBI double in the third, and Yadier Molina launched his second home run of the series in the fourth.

Matz threw 89 pitches and finished the day with four strikeouts and a walk.

Matz's start marked his first regular season outing since returning from ulnar nerve surgery on his left elbow, which limited him to 13 starts in 2017.
