Matt Harvey’s return was as bad as you can imagine for Mets

MILWAUKEE — Matt Harvey should have just called in sick.

Aside from a fifth inning Friday night in which he somehow retired the side in order, Harvey was a mess at Miller Park, either walking batters or leaving pitches over the plate for easy crushing.

It was hardly reassurance to a team in desperate need of starting pitching, and in particular a rebound from Harvey in the aftermath of his three-game suspension for missing last Saturday’s game, when he attempted to call in sick.

Harvey’s struggles buried the Mets in a 7-4 loss to the Brewers, only heightening the sting of losing Jeurys Familia for several months, if not the remainder of the season, after he underwent surgery Friday to remove a blood clot from his right shoulder.
