Matt Harvey was named the National League’s Comeback Player of the Year on Thursday, after helping the Mets reach the World Series in his return from Tommy John surgery.
The right-hander went 13-8 with a 2.71 ERA this season, throwing 216 innings — the most ever by a pitcher returning from Tommy John surgery.
Harvey’s season ended in disappointment, with the Mets losing Game 5 of the World Series to the Royals, after he had lobbied to pitch the ninth inning. The Royals rallied for two runs, both charged to Harvey, to tie the game before winning in the 12th.
