Martino: Mets need to know about Jon Niese - but nobody else

PHILADELPHIA - Sandy Alderson spent a few moments on Tuesday laughing and talking about a Barcalounger as the possible cause of Steven Matz’s discomfort. So he was not exactly projecting concern.

Matz might miss Wednesday’s start after waking on Monday with a sore right side.

“He slept on the wrong side. He slept on the sofa. I don’t know what happened. Barcalounger,” the giddy GM explained, but the team is confident he will pitch the next day, worst case.

But then Alderson made a more substantive point, which is the theme of the regular season, from here on out:

“Anything we decide now is tentative anyway, based on what happens,” Alderson said.
