The Mariners scored a run early in the first inning, which turned out to be all they needed. They then scored a couple more soon after, just for good measure.
With starter Logan Gilbert adding seven shutout innings, the Mariners beat the Mets (61-56) 4-0 Saturday night in Seattle. It was looking to be a pitchers duel with Mets starter Sean Manaea having pitched seven scoreless innings in each of his previous two outings, but Gilbert and the Mariners offense locked up the series early.
Manaea gave up back-to-back doubles to Victor Robles and Randy Arozarena to open the bottom of the first.
